Passport Seva - Chennai

Hi Guys ,

In this Column I will sharing my Experience in Getting the  Passport Re-Issued in Chennai.


1. Download e-from from below link

2.Fill the downloaded e-form and Click "Validate & Save" .This will generate a XML file.

3.Register as New User





4.Login to your portal using Login ID and Password created using step 3.




5.Upload the XML file generated in Step 2.


Now your Details have been uploaded to the system.Next you need to get an appointment and Print the

Application Receipt.

6.To get the appointment Click "Manage Appointment" link in view Saved /Submitted application page to Schedule an appointment at PSK (Passport Seva Kendra).


7.Click "Print Application Receipt" link to print it.It contains the Application Reference Number(ARN).


8.Visit the PSK with the required documents on the scheduled date where the appointment has been taken.



It looks simple but in Practical its not as easy as the above 8 steps at least not in my case.


I was able to proceed until step 5 without any problem.

But when i tried to get an appointment online, could not manage to get one.

So The next step is to visit the Passport office with the printed Application Receipt and supporting documents.


Passport Office:

Royala Towers No. 2 & 3, IV Floor,
Old No. 785, New No. 158, Anna Salai, Chennai,Tamil Nadu-60000


Passport office Procedure:
a) Go early as the service will be available only between 10-12.30 (First come First serve )
b) You will be asked to fill a form in the reception where you need to provide your ARN and reason for visiting Passport office.
c)In the counter your form and ARN will checked and  a room number will be provided.
d)Next you need to take a token for that particular room number.
e)On your turn the officer will provide you an appointment in any one of the PSK(He will write the Date and PSK information on the form) Keep the form safe as you need to produce it on the scheduled date at the corresponding PSK.

Now you got your appointment.


Take the Appointment Form ,Printed Application and supporting documents on the scheduled date.

Go early as usual.

Documents Required : With Photo copies.

Appointment Form    : Online / From the Passport officer
Address Proof          : Ration Card
ID Proof                   : License
ECNR Status           : Matriculation / Degree certificate
Fees                         : INR 1500 (Normal)



Additional Documents : PAN Card,Voter ID



Nowadays Just "Aadhaar Card" is enough to apply for your passport.Not sure.

PSK Counter 1 : Document Verification


Your documents will be verified and a Token number will be provided.


PSK  Counter 2 : Scanning - Photo - Finger Print - Fees

Here your documents will be scanned ,Finger prints and Photograph will be taken.


PSK Counter 3 : Passport Officer 1


1.Here  the officer will go through your application and asks for any additional documents or missing documents.

    - If you are unable to produce it on the same day you need to visit them again with all the required document.
    - If the officer is satisfied with your application you will be forwarded to the next counter

PSK Counter 4 : Passport Officer 2


He too go through the documents if everything is perfect ,you can leave after collecting your receipt.

Else you will be escalated to meet one more officer in case of any issue with your application.

PSK Counter 5 : Receipt


Collect your Receipt in the Final Counter.Keep it Safe as it will be required if you need to visit the Passport office in Future.


You will get the Passport in 10 Days if everything goes fine.You can Check your Status Online.

Steps involved after submitting your documents :


1.Your Application will be sent to your District Commissioner office.

2.Then  it will be sent to  your Local Police Station for Address Verification.

Check your Local Police Station regularly  If they have received your application.


Note : 


You should have stayed in the provided address atleast for 1 year.


If that is not the case you will be in Trouble.

And Granting of passport will be delayed.

3.Your Application will be sent back to your district commissioner office after verification.

4.Then it will be sent to the Passport office.
5.If your Police verification status is positive your passport will be granted and sent for Printing.
6.You will receive an SMS and Email from passport office after dispatching of your passport.


Your Application can be delayed without any reason.

Even if your application process has been stopped for particular reason it wont be communicated to you until you visit the Passport office in person.


Visit your passport office and follow the same procedure Passport office Procedure: to check your status regularly if you see any delay in processing your application
